Plenty of businesses assume automation is complex, expensive and reserved for large companies. In reality the simplest automations save hours every week and stop you losing customers you paid to acquire.
1. Routing leads from ads
When someone fills in a lead form, their details should land in your system and on your sales team's phones immediately — not wait for someone to open the ads dashboard and export a file. Every hour of delay reduces the odds they'll answer.
2. The first reply to messages
You don't need a bot that answers everything. A single automated message within seconds — "we've got your message, we'll reply within X" — cuts the number of people who drift to a competitor while waiting.
3. Following up on silence
Most sales happen in the follow-up, not the first message. An automated sequence at 24 hours, 3 days and 7 days makes a measurable difference to closed deals.
4. Appointment reminders
If you run on bookings — clinic, salon, workshop — a reminder the day before noticeably reduces no-shows, and that's real money recovered.
5. Abandoned carts
In e-commerce, more than half of shoppers add to cart and leave. A WhatsApp message or email an hour later recovers a meaningful share of those orders.
6. Reporting
Instead of someone assembling numbers from five platforms at month end, let the report build and send itself on schedule. The time saved goes into analysing the numbers rather than collecting them.
Where to start
Start with one process — whichever costs you the most time or the most customers. Ship it, confirm it works, then move to the next. Companies that try to automate everything at once stall halfway.
